Country music legend Dolly Parton is officially bringing her life story to Broadway, with DOLLY: A True Original Musical set to begin previews at New York City’s St. James Theatre on December 7, 2026, ahead of its official opening on January 19, 2027—Parton’s 81st birthday.
The production chronicles Parton’s remarkable journey from her humble upbringing in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains to becoming one of the most influential entertainers in the world. The musical blends some of her most beloved classics—including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You”—with brand-new songs written specifically for the stage production.
This is more than a show—it’s my story told through my own words and music.

Parton co-wrote the book with Emmy-winning writer Maria S. Schlatter, while Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher leads the creative team. Other key collaborators include music supervisor Stephen Oremus, choreographer Mandy Moore, and orchestrator John Clancy.
The musical enjoyed a successful world premiere in Nashville before making its way to Broadway. While the Broadway cast has yet to be announced, the production is expected to feature multiple actresses portraying Parton at different stages of her life. Additional casting announcements are expected in the coming months.
“This is more than a show—it’s my story told through my own words and music,” Parton said, describing the Broadway production as a dream she has been working toward for years. She has also said the musical offers audiences an honest look at both the triumphs and challenges that shaped her extraordinary career.
Fans can register for presale tickets beginning July 8, with general ticket sales opening on July 10 for performances running through November 2027.
With an award-winning creative team, timeless music, and the inspiring story of one of country music’s biggest icons, DOLLY: A True Original Musical is shaping up to be one of Broadway’s most anticipated productions.
