Former talk show host Montel Williams has spoken out in defense of his former girlfriend, Kamala Harris, saying the public has misunderstood her for years.
Appearing on On Par with Maury Povich, Williams reflected on Harris’ unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign and argued that her defeat wasn’t a reflection of her abilities. According to Williams, one of the biggest challenges she faced was having only 107 days to run a national campaign after then-President Joe Biden stepped aside.

“I think there are a lot of misconceptions about who she was and who she is,” Williams said, describing Harris as “one of the smartest people I think I’ve ever met in my life.”
The pair briefly dated in 2001 while Harris was working as an attorney in San Francisco and Williams was at the height of his television career. Although their relationship ended years ago, Williams said he always believed Harris had the intelligence and leadership qualities to reach the highest levels of government.
Williams also expressed skepticism about the near-term prospects of the United States electing a woman president, suggesting it may still take several years before that milestone is achieved.
